Edgetalk Prototype

About:

edge talk is a local-first AI chat app built for people who want ownership, privacy, and control over their AI conversations. Instead of storing chats in the cloud, edge talk keeps conversations on your device, makes them searchable offline, and lets you export them anytime. It supports multiple AI providers, works across the Apple ecosystem, and is designed to give users a more private and flexible alternative to traditional AI chat platforms.

Role:

UI Engineer and Designer

Project Brief:

Create the prototype UI for edge talk.

UX Goals:

The core UX challenge was balancing flexibility with simplicity—making edge talk’s customizable personas easy to understand and use, without sacrificing the depth of control available to users.

Research:

I researched existing chat apps like ChatGPT and other local-first AI tools to understand familiar user patterns, feature expectations, and usability pain points. This helped guide the design of edge talk’s persona customization experience so it felt powerful without becoming confusing.

Key UI Decisions:

For the key UI direction, we chose to make edge talk feel closer to a messaging app than a conventional AI interface. This decision was intended to make interactions feel more natural and personal, as though users were speaking with a live digital consciousness rather than using a cold, transactional chat tool.
